This is getting so old! My downstairs 811 has been replaced 3 different times because it would just die... nothing would get it to power on. However sometime is would myteriously start working again before the replacement from Dish arrived. Now my upstairs 811 is having the same problem. I told the CSR that the next time this happens I am demanding my money back. And although the downstairs 811 hasn't died in a couple of weeks it still suffers from audio dropouts, guide problems, etc.

Before the 811 I was probably one of the biggest supporters that DISH has ever had, now I'm ready to start a class action suit against them. Someone needs to teach Charlie a lesson!

Man, from all the complaints in chat about the 811, I think I will keep my pair of 301's for a stretch longer. Just got them and they seems pretty reliable.

So you are saying you have had 4 or 5 different 811's so far?
no offense, 1 or 2 (MAAAYBE 3 if your luck sucks), but if you are on your 5th 811, the problem is yours and not the 811's.

Dish is kind of notorious for the poor quality control on new receivers. When I got my 501, I had to have it replaced twice before I got one that worked longer than a couple hours. 501 number 3 has been going strong for a couple years now. I also had to get a bad 811 replaced recently. That one stopped locking the transponders carrying hi-def on the 110 satellite. My second one seems to be working well, although I've only had it a month. Mboy may be right about your situation though. My experience has been that once a receiver is "burned in" it will work for a long time and I've been a Dish customer for about 6 years. If you've got that many going bad, including one that worked for a significant period of time you may have a problem with your electricity. Do you have a surge suppressor?

MBOY..... Maybe you should read the post very carefully! This is the first time the upstairs receiver has been replaced..... OH and this morning it was working again all on it's on which is the point I am trying to make there is something wrong with the 811 recievers.

OH AND ANOTHER POINT.... THE PROBLEM IS NOT MINE! I have been with DISH for about 5 years with ZERO problems. My Model 6000 NEVER had this kind of problem. My 501 continues to work just fine also.

Three replacements downstairs, 1 upstairs, and 4 in the other forum where you also placed this same thread. That sounds like 8 to me.

Just curious- why do people assume "Charlie" == Echostar. He may be the CEO, but he doesnt make every company decision. Its not a mom-and-pop operation. 15,000 employees dont all report to one guy. Sure- he provides top level direction--- but man, its not like he's sitting there with a soldering iron putting together 811's. He relies on decisions and schedules from his executive staff- I would assume. But I could be way off on this. Maybe he sits down with all 15,000 employees and makes sure all is well every day.

I just see thread after thread like "Charlie raised my rates", "Why wont Charlie add this channel", "Charlie gave me stupid BingoTV", "Charlie sold me a defective 921/811/whatever", etc. Maybe Im taking things too literally.

Willy you can't be serious. He is in charge. If his subordinates are making bad calls he needs to replace them. To say these aren't "his" moves is putting your head in the sand. I agree wholeheartedly with never being a beta tester. I won't get a DLP set because of all the issues. I waited Until the 501 was out for a while before I got one, and it has run flawless for years now. Some people will put up with problems to have the newest and latest toys. I won't. To say Charlie isn't ultimately responsible for shoddy receivers is just plain wrong. I guess Eisner isn't ultimately responsible for an attraction or movie that tanks either, but clearly the people he put in charge are, and that is his responsibility.

Gregg,

Oh i cant argue that E* has problems and Charlie is the one that is ultimately responsible. But he is *not* the one making every desicion for the company. What I was just curious about is why on every forum, where there are product complaints, you rarely hear "Its Craig Barrets fault that the new Pentium4 is shipping late", or something similiar. People seem to think that Charlie is the only person running the company and his mom and dad are the only CSR's. Just wondering why its so personal.

Kinda like how I dont blame George Bush for the fact that I saw a cop run a red light. Well, it *is* the USA and he *IS* at the top of the heap- but should I really blame him?

I think it is a couple of things...

1. "Charlie" has simply become a nickname for Dish Network here. They are used fairly interchangably -- even when someone might not really mean Charlie specifically. I've even seen people say things like "The Charlie CSRs don't have any info on it." -- using "Charlie" as an adjective! heh.

2. We don't see Craig Barrets on live TV talking about the current status of the P4 every month. Charlie makes things personal by being more personal with us. I think the Charlie Chats are a great thing -- but part of the downside is that people can't help but more closely associate Dish things directly to his control/doing -- even if he was only indirectly involved with the specifics on a particular situation...

I'll buy that. Good points John.
