Leichtman: High Satisfaction Among DBS Subs

A new survey from Leichtman Research Group found that 70 percent of DBS subscribers nationwide are very satisfied with their provider, while 53 percent of cable subscribers said they are very satisfied with their cable TV company.

However, despite differences in overall customer satisfaction, Leichtman found there's virtually no difference in the potential for customers to switch to a new service. Overall, 11 percent of cable subscribers said they are likely to switch from their current provider in the next six months, while 10 percent of satellite TV subs said they are likely to switch, the firm said.

And the overall levels of satisfaction for cable and DBS subscribers are statistically unchanged from a study conducted a year ago, Leichtman said.

Findings are based on a telephone survey of 1,600 randomly selected households throughout the United States, and are part of a new research study from Leichtman, "Cable and DBS: Competing for Customers."

The survey also found that 52 percent of digital cable subscribers strongly agree (8-10 on a 10 point scale) that their cable provider is "an innovative, high-tech company" – compared to 38 percent of analog cable subscribers. Also, 67 percent of digital cable subscribers strongly agree that their provider "offers all the channels I want" – compared to 53 percent of analog cable subscribers, the firm said.

And just 20 percent of new DBS subscribers in areas where cable is available say that they switched from a digital cable service, Leichtman said.
