Yesterday I saw a Super Dish mounted on your typical TV tower. It was about 8-10 feet above the roofline, which was probably 15’ above ground. It had a plate that mounted to two of the legs of the tower with the foot bolted in-between.
I mostly do D* installs, but have discussed this very matter with mostly E* installers, who I work with closely, and do some E* work for them.
We also came up with ‘the plate’ idea. With my experience installing Dway dishes I had my reservations about using this ‘plate/tower’ mount more than a few feet above the base, because of ‘wind/ice load’.
I have only mounted Dway dishes on a houses were I could reinforce the wall structure, such as an open garage or a sturdy deck. Most I have mounted on a 10’ pole,3 ½ -4’ underground in cement, with ‘knobs’ welded on to prevent turning. This takes a 2 day install, but being the last part of a Dway install is the PC software, your better of starting that part with, a fresh mind, clean clothes and a shower.
I have joked about a Super Dish twisting a tower into spiral in a heavy wind. But am most concerned about the shaking a 18” or phase III causes when mounted to only one leg, with the mount itself absorbing some of the vibration in a heavy wind.
How many towers will the Super Dish take down ? ?
Would be most interested with other installer’s thoughts and concerns.
