View Full Version : Madison missing upn
Does anyone know if and when upn14 in Madison will be available. I see on Lyngsat that there is a channel open (7285) between Madison's wb and pbs channels.

I doubt that you'll see it anytime soon on E*, since UPN is ONLY available via cable & a digital subchannel of a local digital off-air station. I don't believe E* has ever carried one of these stations yet.
OTOH, D* has been willing to carry WB & UPN channels that are digital subchannels of local off-airs - they do this in several markets now.

E* numbers their channels in the same pattern regardless of if there is a station of that flavor available in the market ...
xxx0 or xxx5 ABC
xxx1 or xxx6 CBS
xxx2 or xxx7 NBC
xxx3 or xxx8 Fox
xxx4 or xxx9 WB
xxx5 or xx+0 UPN
xxx6 or xx+1 PBS #1
xxx7 or xx+2 PBS #2 or Independent
Or at least that's the way I believe TNGTony has said it... :)

There is a Roanoke WB of the same type carried on E*, but I am not aware of any UPNs of this type being carried. Probably depends on who owns the UPN rights there.

Hmm, I didn't realize E* had a change of heart about locals that were NOT "full-powered analog". You are right about the UPN; there are several LP ones that E* will NOT carry, but I thought there were other WB's, either LP or "digital only" that E* would not carry as well. (I guess FOX in Roanoke made E* an offer they could NOT refuse to get their WB subchannel carried ;) ;) )

Lurker,
You are correct in the smaller markets, but in the bigger markets it's
xxx7 = Major independent
xxx8 = Univision affiliate
xxx9 = Telemundo Affiliate
Then in this order above XXX0 + 10:
Additional spanish (Telefutura/Azteca/Ind)
Additional PBS
Additional independent
Ethnic
Religious
Additional major network.
-------------
In the smaller markets they don't keep the channel spacing, but they generally follow the order.
BTW Dallas has the Telemundo affiliate in teh "wrong place" because of an affiliate swap the day Dish made the channels available.
See ya

Minneapolis is the same way (UPN & FOX switched stations 9/8/02)
8573 WFTC (UPN)
8575 KMSP (FOX)

You can receive a single UPN or a single WB for $1.50/each (Superstations). If you want both UPN and WB it's $3. You can choose from these stations:
232 KTLA-TV (WB - Los Angeles)
234 WPIX-TV (WB - New York)
235 KWGN-TV (WB - Denver)
236 WSBK-TV (UPN - Boston)
238 WWOR-TV (UPN - New York)
If you want ALL of these stations it's $5.99.
Just call DISH and ask for which ones you want. You can get any of all of then anywhere in the US.
Our UPN station is crutial since they show Wisconsin college sports like hockey, basketball and CBS programming when sports are being shown on WISC-TV 3. The station wen first launched was called WISC-2 then TV-W and now UPN-14. It's owned by WISC 3 so it really does not make sense why it is not carried. Dish can get it from digital since it's digital channel 3-2. But nope Dish is stupid.

Yeah pretty much but with E* you don't get all your locals, you get an incomplete locals package.
