SAT: Dish 501PVR
TV: Samsung HLN567W
DVD: Bravo D1
Remote Control: MX-700 Home Theater Master
Audio: Discarded old Kenmore, looking for new $200 - $300
Speakers: Front, center and Bass. Looking for quality, I hope for $200 - $300.

Problem: I cannot get my MX-700 to control the Dish 501 using the IR database codes. Before I try the online database or learn function does anyone have any idea?

To check the IR response on the box to the factory remote control is there anyway to stop the UHF reception and use only IR from the factory remote control? I have taken the anntena off and it still responds to UHF.

One issue might be the access number but I think that only applies to the UHF signal.

The MX-700 does control the TV and DVD.

Thanks in advance.

I have the MX500, not the 700. I have a dish 721, not the 501. Still, I would expect your MX700 to work your 501 just fine. You may have to learn it from the original remote, which likely does both IR and RF (UHF). The changing of the receiver address does effect the IR codes sent. This makes sense, since you may be controlling multiple different 501s via IR, and would not want the signals to control all receivers, just the one you want to control at the time.
It has been my experience that preprogrammed codes supplied as a data-base only have the default receiver address, which I do not like to use. I think you will likely find all the codes/addresses you need at www.remotecentral.com in the files area. If I remember right, you can import pronto (.ccf) files into your MX700 software package.

P.S. You may want to just try learing one command to the MX700 if you are uncertain that your 501 is responding to IR.

Problem solved. I assumed, wrongly, that the remote address was only for UHF. Taking Chris H comment that it also was for IR, I changed the address to #2 and the MX-700 works great using the Dish 501 code from the IR database.

Don't you just love these types of forums.
