View Full Version : Dishnetwork lied to me
I was told by Dish that since I have a 6000 I did not have to activate the 811. Now my local installer AEI called Dish and they said that was not true. I now have the 6000 which is de-activated and I won't get as much $$$ for the 6000 as I would with the 811. I was told a lie flat out. The 34" HDTV is already in my home and they have left already. I basically wanted them out of my house so I can try and resolve this.

Go ahead and flame me because I'm gonna say that you wrestled with pigs and are complaining that you got dirty. I don't defend them lying to you, if in fact they did so, but you did try to pull a fast one, didn't you? You got the HD package deal w/811 and wanted to sell the 811 to pay for the package? If I've got this wrong, please correct me.
Well I bought a 6000 in October, I guess I will be selling my 6000 instead, won't get as much probably.

ehren,
Have you checked what 6000's are selling for on eBay? Do an enhanced search and include items that are completed.
I'm hoping I get my 921 before the market for the 6000 crashes!

Why not activate the 6000 for a day or so....then deactivate the 811. Tell them you don't like the 811 picture or something?

The 6000s are commanding tremendous prices on eBay. Some say this is because of their hackability, others say it is because the 6000s can't do the HDMI down-scaling or whatever it's called. But for whatever reason the 6000s are going for very lucrative prices on eBay. Even during the time period where 6000s were selling for $199/$149, the 6000s on eBay were going for at least $400. Here's the prices that 6000s have gone for on eBay in the past month or so:

It looks like listings that have 8PSK and 8VSB in the title get higher prices. Look at these prices!!! The old 6000 is selling for HIGHER than brand new 811 models! My advice - sell your 6000 now!
Mine won't go as high cause I don't have the 8VSB! I called Dish and they de-activated the 811. Wow that was hard! Seems again Dish and the retailers cannot get things straight. One says one thing while the other...
That is why I asked again in PM if the 811 would not be activated. I knew that they would want to activate it. Are you going to sell the 6000 now? I'd be interested in that too...

First of all if you went through a local retailer they will not get paid if you don't activate the 811 on your account for atleast 95 days, and if they don't get paid for their upgrade they are just going to come back and bill you full price for the 811 Receiver.
Second of all, the 6000 doesn't even have DVI. You have an HD monitor with a DVI connection, why not use the 811?
Finally, a 6000 will get you more on ebay than an 811 will anyways.
Ehren, having followed your 811 adventures in your various threads and posts, I think you got exactly what you deserve. You get no sympathy from me.
not that that is worth anything...
Oh but I am really begging for sympathy aren't I
Claude- It was thru Dishnetwork themselves with that beautiful Dishnetwork white van. Wherever it came from I believe was about an hour away.

There is your mistake! Quit CRYING and use a local retailer.

I think two things that are going hand in hand are STRONG hints that it is due to hackability. High prices on ebay + Dish Network card swapouts for 6000 owners. The demand must be getting higher and higher because the cards are getting rarer and rarer.

Ehren couldn't use a local retailer. The original retailer is no longer in business. DISH only allows an existing customer to upgrade on that promo through their original retailer, or directly through the 800 #. Ehren's only choice was the 800#.
I'm one of the biggest advocates of using a local retailer, but there are some cases where that isn't an option.
Contacted Dish today and they checked the HD in a box promo FAQ and there was nothing mentioning the 811 "had" to be activated. So now I take a small bow. Thank ya, thank ya very much bebe. Hey call me a cheapass, I got the 6000 for $149 then sold my 8VSB since I have no use for it, sell the 811 which I was told didn't need to be used since I don't have two HDTV's! Gee what to do, what to do. I think I'll help myself pay for the tv. And get a retailer a 811 for less than it costs him to buy it wholesale. Thanks again Mainstreet AKA Justin.

My only comment is that, IMHO, you should not post that you are being lied to when you are basically doing the same thing to Dish. You only compound your own hypocracy with a less than straightforward post to boot. Why is it ok for you to misrepresent your intentions but outrageous for Dish to "lie" to you?
I needed a dish upgrade from my legacy system to support my new 921. I called Dish and explained what I wanted to do, they worked through the options with me. I was up front about what I wanted to do, especially that I did not want to pay for the upgrade if possible, knowing that they could probably charge me, and rightly so.
Yet, they understood, were friendly and helpful to me and essentially helped me figure out the best option based on all of their offers, policies, and my situation. Net result, no cost to me and an upgrade of my second receiver to a 510. Try being straight with them next time. Win-win. No sour grapes, pouting poster.
