Does anyone have a 921 that they are using with a Hitachi V500 or Sony GW display? I believe that these sets have a native resolution of 720. If you have one, how is it working out for you as far as aspect ratios, etc. Thinking of buying a Hitachi 50V500 and inquiring minds would like to know :D . Thanks, Gerry

I am using my 921 with a Sharp Z10000 DLP projector that has native 720P along with a Stewart 120" FireHawk screen. HD looks jaw-dropping incredible! When I set it to 1080i, it's virtually identical except when looking very close, you can see a little more "sharpness" or "noise"(?) in the picture.

I have a Sony 60" GW and the 720P out looks outstanding, though I use it primarily in 1080i out since that's the native resolution of most of the HD channels on DISH and I don't get any OTA. I wish the 921 had a "Native Resolution" option that would give you the actual 1080i/720p of the HD channels and 480p for the SD channels.

wcswett,

Do you have the 60" LCD (610) like me ? I am glad to hear that the 921 coupled with that monitor looks awesome. I can't wait to get mine hooked up and operational.

How do you switch the 610 between 720p and 1080i ? Or does it do it automatically ?

I have the Sony KF-50WE610 (the GWIII, LCD RPTV) and it works reasonably well with the 921, taking into account the hundreds of bugs in the 921. Using a DVI-D cable for the video provides pretty high quality on channels such as Discovery HD; the SD handling of the 921 is currently ugly, so it unfortunately suffers somewhat.

The GWIII can take any HD signal the 921 can output, including 720p or 1080i, on its component or DVI inputs. The television doesn't need any sort of mode adjustments to do this; it's automatic. If only the 921 could be so automatic in its operations, though. Unfortunately, at present, it has no resolution pass-through (to avoid conversion artifacts), so most folks leave the 921 in 1080i mode.

I have model KF-60XR800. It switches automatically.

I have a 60v500 and am anxiously awaiting delivery of my 921 any day now. I'll be sure to let you know and am likewise interested in any feedback from others using the same/similar sets.

I believe that the Hit takes any input signal, up-converts it to it's maximum resolution then re-converts it to its display resolution. Sounds kind of convoluted, but I believe it does a pretty good job of it.

slordak....yeah my Sony 60" 610 GW LCD does not display SD programming from my DN 501 & 510 receivers that well at all. I was hoping that when I got my 921 that the "upconverting" that is does would help out this problem at least a little bit, as far as SD goes.

I am also expecting that HD programming will look AWESOME on my LCD...Someone else here has reported very good display quality, from there 921, on their Sony LCD big screen. I am hoping for the same.

Dreamer, unfortunately there is some bad news here. The up-conversion done by the 921 is actually worse than the up-conversion done inside the GWIII. Effectively, the 921 has more primitive algorithms for de-interlacing and resolution transformations. If the 921 could be told to output SD programming at 480i over the component/DVI outputs (and yet still output HD programming at 720p or 1080i in this same mode), then the picture would actually improve compared to older receivers, but it's not capable of doing this, so...

You can always turn on "Mild" mode on your GWIII to help blur things out :)

gah...I hate mild mode !

Well I guess I'll have to invest in the iScan HD after all.
