Upgrade Recommendation

We've been a E* customer since 1997 or so... still using the original receivers, 4000 and 2700. We currently subscribe to the All Everthing Pack (or whatever they call it).

I am looking at upgrading to DVR equipment and also lowering our monthly bill with less programs since my kids have moved out of the house.

Question. Should I look at D* packages, or just call E* and see what they will offer current customers for an upgrade of equipment to DVR? We don't need the latest and greatest.. just want to experience DVR technology.

Any suggestions welcome.

Yes, definitely call E* and see what they have to offer. The 5XX series are good DVR's and solid performers. One of the main drawbacks though is that they are not dual tuner which is something you will like to have.

On the other hand though, also take a look at DirecTV. Their DirecTivo DVR is very good and in my opinion, has better features and less problems. They are also very cheap especially for new subscribers and upgradeable if you want more hard drive space.

Good luck and whichever way go, enjoy the DVR experience. You will never look back!
