I have a OTA and I want to diplex it in but I have a dish 300 and a dish 500 with a twin cascaded to a SW21 then in the house. The SW 21's are located in the house. If I diplex on the 500 an dtwin does that feed need to be "looking" at the 500 for the OTA signal to come through or does the "position of the SW 21 matter at all?

"my suggestion"
why spend money on a diplexer, when a seperate coax for OTA is cheap and less likely to cause problems? I would only consider a diplexer as a "last option".
Well, to answer the question, the diplexer that combines the signals should go between the SW21s and the receivers. Since yours are in the house you would still need to run the OTA feed at least that far.
I find good quality diplexers to be quite reliable but if you have to run the OTA feed most of the way maybe you might just as well go all the way.
