A friend of mine just dropped Comcast and went with a DirecTv setup.
One of his STB is a HD. He was told by someone at DirecTv that he could not be authorized for CBS=HD due to the Grand Junction CBS affiliate has to approve a waiver? Is this true?
Thanks in advance.

If he lives in Denver no, if he lives near Grand Junction yes. He needs to call *D type extension 721 and ask to speak to advanced tech support to resolve this issue.

He lives in Castle Rock area.
I thought something wasn't right about this.
Thanks, Marcus .... And keep warm tonight!

Yes, he is in the Denver DMA & qualifies for CBD-HD W. *D just screwed up on auto-qual. I had to do the same for myself in the mountains, and for parents who live Austin. If the fools tell him they must submit a waiver for CBS distant nets, say no, that is not how it works, and have them cancel the waiver request. CBS-HD is free if you sub to either the locals pak or HD pak. No qual, it's blanket. You can also refer the ATS rep to channel 82 which states this.

The problem MAY be with Colorado Springs. Folks who live south of Denver are in the grade B signal area of the CS CBS affiliate and they DO NOT give waivers.

Tony, Monument is the divide between C Springs & Denver. If you live in Castle Rock "the large hill" Monument Pass", that seperates the two cites, prevents you from receiving C Springs. Castle Rock is in Douglas County
but adjacent (north) of El Paso County. You should see this on the FCC topo maps. However, all that said *D qual says that Castle Rock residents are within the B grade signal of the CBS affilate KKTV in C Springs, while the E* qual says you are in the Denver DMA. Just checked.
This issue is going to suck on *D. I would say that he will need to request an OTA test for KKTV (which they will not drive to Castle Rock), fight with *D, or best, contact the CBS Denver O&O KCNC and see what DMA they believe Castle Rock is in. KCNC may have to send a waiver to *D, but then he qualifies as a distant net CBS SD sub, would get CBS LA SD * HD + have to pay for CBS LA SD for $1.50 a mo.

Cheyenne, tell your friend to read the Denver HDTV Tower Part 3 thread in the Local HDTV forum at AVSForums. Tell them to start about 20 pages back from current - there were about 6 pages of posts from people trying to get DTV to add CBS-HD for them for the superbowl. Several people in the Castle Rock area were successful, and the Colorado Springs (as well as the Cheyenne station) both were giving waivers freely to Denver directv people.

On C Springs, many of the grandfathered Denver net subs did, most that where not grandfathered did not. KKTV has local news and sports unlike WB2 Denver (repeated) or UPN out of Pueblo.
