I have been poking around on lyngsat .com and noticed that there are other satelittes in other locations that dont have "encryption" schemes, some of them even look like i might be interested (sucha s the free radio from canada). How do I recieve these signals?

depends on which satellite you are talking about
Most programing is NOT the channels most people pay for (like on Dish, Direct, or cable) Rather a hodge podge of non=scrambled programing that one can watch with a FTA MPEG2 system.
here is a link for info

You need a larger dish, different lnb's a motorized arm for the dish so it could move using the expensive receiver you would have to buy. In the old days when c-band channels weren't scrammbled (as late as the 1980's) it was worth buying a 10' satellite dish, receiver, etc. for $2000 because you watched everything for free including all of the current 'cable channels.' Now if you want to watch these free wild feeds or music channels you can still spend the money.....I've seen money spent on a lot worse things than that.
