View Full Version : rf remote question
have new directv hughes gaeb0a receiver (with an rf remote). installed and activated yesterday. have output of receiver split to two tv's, in separate rooms. want to use the rf remote (with the shark fin antenna) to control both. problem is: kitchen (with refrig, stove, etc.) is between the two rooms. i can get the remote to work in the second room (the receiver being in the first room) in only a very limited spot, and have to really search for that location. my question is: can i to extend the length of the lead between the shark fin and receiver, so i can move the fin to location that would allow me to use the remote anyplace in the second room? would hate to take the time and effort to do this if it is not going to work. any help/suggestions would be appreciated,.
Sure, you can put the UHF remote antenna anywhere that happens to work well for you. You might even want to replace it for a better UHF antenna.
I use an old fashioned double bow-tie array UHF antenna. It's not pretty but my remote always works anywhere in the house.
You can also connect the receiver's remote antenna jack to a TV antenna in the attic or even on the roof. That virtually ensures perfect operation anywhere on the property.

I am currently doing something similiar with an RCA 486 with the rf remote...ran 30' of coax from the LR receiver thru the basement just under the bedroom tv...I knew all my extra dual coax would come in handy...works great. :D
