View Full Version : New 721 Bug - Timer Error!
For 2 nights in a row now, I have had an error recording an event on my 721. Last night, I was recording a 2 hour show. The recording light was on and the PVR screen showed that the event was taping the for the entire 2 hours. When the event finished recording and I tried viewing it, it showed only 15 seconds taped! It was actually only about 5 seconds though. Tonight I had the same thing happen with a weekly hour event. It showed only 15 seconds recorded but it really only recorded about 5 seconds.
Has anyone else seen this bug recently? It seems like it is bug to me because it always shows 15 seconds recorded when it is only 5 seconds. I don't think this could be a harddrive problem.
Has anyone else had this happen to them? Any thoughts on whether I should try to RMA the 721?
Thanks.
I had what may have been the same thing happen about a week ago. It said it was about 15 sec. recorded, but I don't remember the amount of seconds that it did record was less or not. I just pulled the card and let it reboot and figured it may have crashed or something. I'am pretty sure it has also happened a few times in the last year or so

I have been having a that issue lately with my 721 mine has been giving me 15 or 17 second recordings too. But it has also been behaving weird when two timers are set at the same time and I am watching a recorded show. This I can pretty much reproduce at any time.
If I am watching a recorded show and two timers are supposed to fire, the first starts without a problem, but lately the second pops up the window that ask if you want to use the main tuner to record (I only remember that happening in prior versions when I was watching a live show) When I say yes use main to record the menu goes away and I am still watching the recorded show. But when I go back and look the timer never starts.
I then try to start it manually but it brings up the timer conflict window, it won't let me skip the existing timer to start recording because it says the timer is running, the only way I can get the timer to fire is to wait for a comercial break and force the box to reboot.
This only seemed to happen one night a week, so I decided to delete all my timers and add them again, nothing has changed and it has started doing it more frequently, sometimes when I am watching a recorded show and only one timer needs to fire.
I had this a few times, but only when two timers were set simultaneously. Most times it would recover and record the rest of the programs on another recording (minus a short gap). Haven't seen it now in a couple of months, tho.
This is happening to me also a few times a week. Don't remember when it started.

Me too. Lately my 721 is having brain farts:(
This has been a bug since 116. I have called Dish about this and other timer related problems. Dish continues to refuse to acknowledge that any bugs exist. Timer problems don't get listed in the "known bug" list as far as I can determine.
I just had this happen again last night! This has happened at least 3 times now just in the past week and has caused the lost of 3 entire shows. It has to be a new bug from L1.16 because I never seen it prior to that update. L1.15 was pretty much rock solid...leave it to Echostar to make things worse! I am really fed up with their denial of bug issues. They really don't seem to give a damn for their longtime customers. I'm just waiting for the HD Tivo to come out and then I will be jumping ship. Enough is enough already!

1.15 was junk for me, the latest one was rock solid at first but appears to be getting worse for unknown reasons since it first spolled/
Just like all E DVRs different boxes have different troubles. It must be variations in components.

I have never seen this bug. I have had problems when I have had one show recording that stops at the same time as two shows are supposed to start began recording. I think at that time there are actually supposed to be three timers running, but since you have two recorders, there are problems. Normally what happens in this case is that one of the two shows is not recorded.
Dictated with Dragon Naturally Speaking 7.3 and may not be fully corrected...
My 721 has a new timer bug that causes only partial recordings
That is the same exact bug that I have been experiencing. You misunderstood me when I said that it didn't record. It always records but it only does for seconds. The PVR event screen always shows 15 seconds for the duration of the recorded event. When I try to view it, it only actually plays for about 5 seconds or so.

I have this bug happen to me every once in awhile. What's annoying is that it will say the right amount of time is recorded (and indeed the red light was on and it was recording for the right amount of time), but once I go to view it once, the recording will suddenly revert to 15 seconds, etc... I had this happen to both the Sunday and Monday 'Super Millioniare' shows that I recorded this week. (And I rebooted the 721 Sunday evening.)

If we are on the trail of the same bug, I have noticed that I do not have this problem if I am watching a recording- it can then record two shows at once.
Furthermore, I only get problems when I actually am telling it to record three at the same time due to timer overlap. I think that the solution may be to edit the times manually to make sure there is no overlap, i.e. one to end at 2:99 and the others to start at 3:01.
