I tried to buy the 1.99 warranty but Dish refused me since the Original Warranty had about six months to go.

It seems to me with any hard drive device the question is when, not if, it will die. Given that Dish has made it next to impossible to replace our own hard drives what's the best strategy?

I think 5.99 is too much for a one box system. Purchasing a new pvr would stick me with the new dvr fee, which is why I specifically got a 508.

I looked on the Dish Site to see how much repair or exchange would be without warranty and did not find an answer.

So what are the options?

Thanks,
Charles

If the 508 is still under a year old , Dish should replace it free except shipping and handeling. I placed my second 721 on my account and it had a bad tuner and Dish said they would replace it . The csr said all new dvrs get a year warrenty from Dishnetwork. She even said I wouldn't place it on the 1.99 warrenty till the year was close to up ,since they would cover it anyway.
