View Full Version : Dropping HBO today, do I have to worry about losing TiVo HBO recorded shows

First, some background...

I currently have HBO, mainly so my wife could see Sex and the City episodes. I don't watch HBO at any other time and my wife only watches it a little bit. As most of you are aware, the series finale aired last night. We have last week's episode (Part One) and this week's episode(Part Two) saved on TiVo, along with the two specials that aired prior to Part Two.

I ASSUME that those Sex and the City shows will STAY on the TiVo, even after cancelling HBO. However, I want to be DEAD SURE about that before I pull the plug on HBO!!! I don't want to catch hell for those episodes disappearing.

Since the seasoned pros in this forum have seen or heard of all things satellite, I figure that some of you can confirm whether my assumption is 100% right.

Eventually, they will be dropped to VHS, but I don't have the time yet to do it. I just want the shows to sit on the TiVo until I can get the chance to transfer them over.

Thanks in advance for putting up with the question.

I've dropped channels recently and can confirm things recorded from those channels stayed and were watchable afterward.
I, too, am cancelling HBO today after the Sex and the City finale. I wonder how common this will be?

What? You're not sticking around for The Sopranos? :D

No, the recordings of premium channel programming does not go away if you elect to discontinue the premium channels. I've got several from December on my "to watch" list.

Thanks everybody, just want to make sure and keep the new wife happy. :D She absolutely loves Sex and the City and will probably end up owning the DVD Set for all six seasons.

However, being newly married, we are looking at cutting costs on things we don't really need. Now that Sex and the City is over, which is why I got HBO a few months ago, we don't watch it enough to justify the $12.84 with tax we're spending.

Drop HBO better not let Tony hear that. If we all leave who will keep Larry David from become normal? Besides it will take me another year to figure out Carnivale. And oh by the way your recordings are safe if you set the status save untill I Delete.

Has any of you ever tried to record PPV on your Directivo? does it let you use all of Tivo functions, such as pausing, with control just like cable's video-on-demand service for all Directivos? I can't find that fact listed in any spec sheet or forum posting. no one seems to know. but maybe you do? Thank you for your reply. :)

The only Pay Per View that I purchased was the Incredible Hulk pilot which they were selling for a penny. It recorded and plays back just fine, however you cannot set it up to record one minute early, etc.

I've recorded a couple of PPV's and yes, it works just like any other recording.

Don't need to pad it because they seem to start at or a few minutes after the start time and finish before or at the end time.

It defaults to "Save Until I Delete".

As soon as you say "Purchase and Record", if it is an "All Day Ticket", it opens the channel so you can watch it even if it is in the middle of the program, but it doesn't record it until the time slot you selected.

For example, it is 8:00 pm, I had two other recordings set to go around 9:00 pm, so I set a PPV to record at 12:00 am. It recorded it at 12:00 am, but I changed to that channel and could watch it at 8:00 pm when I actually told it to "Purchase and Record".

Sounds more confusing than it actually is......
