As previously commented on in a previous post I made:
http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=21248

I continue to experience problems with watching a previously recorded program while recording another. I spoke to D* last night and they said I should delete all my programs than turn off the satellite with the remote by holding the off button down for 5 seconds. Than they said I should unplug the unit, wait 5 sec's than replug in. I told them that I had done that before and still had the problems so they offered to ship me a new PVR, but said I'd have to pay $14.95 shipping. I asked if the new unit I received had the same problem would I have to pay shipping again and they said yes. This just doesn't seem fair when it's under the 1 year warranty and I also bought the $1.99/mo. warranty (perhaps that was a waste). I'm concerned about the next unit failing because of numerous posts on this website indicating that folks have gone through multiple 5XX for defective products. Anyway, I told them I'd try it one more time before replacement.

Any ideas/thoughts?

I had a problem with my 510 under warranty and insisted on speaking to a supervisor to get the shipping fee waived. Why should we have to pay for shipping of a defective product

D* was very insistant that it couldn't be waived with the warranty plan I had. This frosts me because it was a problem right away when I first got the 508....so the remanufactured PVR that I got never worked right. They have a record of me calling about this within one to two weeks of it being activated for the first time. Anybody else have luck with getting this shipping fee waived on the first replacement?

You have 2 options for replacements, if you read the terms of the warrenty.

Dish will send you a replacement before you send yours back, and you pay $14.95 for the shipping, or you can send yours back and then Dish will send you the replacement and not charge you shipping.

Mark - thanks for the reply. With either option you mention, I have to pay shipping though correct? It just seems to me that if they send me a replacement unit it should work out of the box. The very 1st time I attempted to watch a program while recording another it DIDN'T work. In other words it never worked, the remanufactured unit that the satellite dealer sent me was faulty. I know there's nothing you can do about it, but it just makes me mad.

It is E* BTW that stands for echostar. D* is DirecTV. And no you do NOT pay shipping with the second option.

Sorry about that - D* vs. E*....I should have known that.

So I called E* last night and said that it appeared that the $1.99/ mo. plan might be a waste because I already have a 1 year warranty on the PVR. They said that if ANY of my receivers fail that they would replace them and that I'd pay the shipping, but only on the first one, after that, they'd pick up the shipping. So if BOTH my 508 and 4700 fail, I'd only pay shipping once. That makes more sense. Strange how the CSR's don't seem to understand their own warranties.....

Anyone else have a similar experience?
