Dish recently started offering local networks in my area, and I'm going to go back to dish. I'm looking at the Dishplayer 721 and 522 for my main TV. I want the functions on single-user mode. I understand that it may be out for the 522 later this spring. I do not want to have to deal with 2 remotes to change the various recording options on the 522. I also understand from reading here that the 721 does support single-user mode with both tuners. What are the pro's and con's of the 522 vs 721? HD size, Internet Access, ect?? Thanks for the help that anyone can provide.
Call DISH and see if they will let you come back and get a 522. If you aren't eligible to get the 522 your only option is the 721. 522 are for new DHA customers only.

721 has two tuners which allow you to record 1 or 2 channels at the same time and also watch a third "already recorded" show , (is made for one tv - however as with any receiver you could connect to more tvs but all tvs would have the same picture and "uhf " remote allows you operate it from other rooms)
522 has two tuners and is made to operate "like two receivers" (but no "extra monthly second receiver fee) it is only available your "lease" customers at this time

I have noticed Dish 522 receivers being auctioned on eBay, not for lease, but to own. If I were to buy one, would Dish activate it? I've been a Dish subscriber since 1996, so I don't think I would qualify as a new customer :)

Huh: I thought the 522 is available only through a lease from DISH, which would imply that any units for sale are stolen or at least "illegally-acquired"? The 522 has always seemed like an odd beast to me any way: if I was DISH I'd let people buy them outright if they want, but I'm sure there's some logic there somewhere.
