Okay, I found a bug I don't like with my DirecTivo.

When I tried to order a PPV all day ticket and schedule a time to record it, the box would not allow me to order the movie via the remote because the movie was in progress. Apparently there is a window of time at the end of the movie and at the beginning of the next showing when you can order and schedule a recording.

Since I didn't have time to wait until the end of the movie, I had to order the PPV over the internet and then setup a manual timer to catch the movie on the next showing.

This is something they definitely need to fix. There is a thread over on the Tivo Community that started back in 2002. The last post is in Feb of this year and still no fix. It also doesn't seem to happen to everyone.

Granted, I don't order PPV's very often but this could be a real hassle if you have friends over and you want to watch something on impulse.

Hey Chris...I remember you talking about some fancy remote that used a battery as a transmitter. How's that working out for you? Is the battery life and range acceptable?

Yes. So far so good. The only problem I ran into is that sometimes the IR transmitter that sends the signals to the Tivo interferes with other remote IR codes. In that case, I just block the transmitter or turn it toward the wall.

I have only done 2 PPV's but did not have this problem. I know I ordered them while the were in progress within the last 30 minutes of the showing. I also set them up to record. The only thing I may have done different was switch channels after I ordered them, untill the next showing started. Then I switched back. They worked OK for me.

I don't order PPV, so bear with me. Have you tried "View Other Showings" and scheduling the recording from the list?

I have ordered two PPV's since I've had my DirecTivo and they worked just fine.

It sounds like you were trying to set it up to record the one that was playing, you probably can't do that...

What I did was select the one that started next and it opened the channel up so I could watch the current one, but put the next one in the TO DO List!

Exactly as twark said. I don't order PPV's much but have never had a problem in the past few years with ordering or recording. What I do is choose a showing to record (I'll usually choose an early morning one so in case of technical problems I can setup another record later in the day for all day tickets). Just choose to buy the showing at say, 9am, and it will purchase and setup a recording all at once. No fuss, no muss. :)

If you order your PPV"S online with "D" and order the movie to go to your main reciever you get all channels available for that movie and it will go to all the recievers in your house for the same 1 low price.

I know what you mean. That is the way it's supposed to work. Like I said, not everyone has this problem.

I have had repeated problems trying to order PPVs on channel 108 ( unexplained by Direct). On any of the other channels DTivo can order in advance. If the PPV is indicated as All Day Ticket then buying a future showing enables the viewing at the time of buying not when the show was picked. You can also watch a different channel that carries the same movie. So you should have been able to tell DTivo to buy and record a future time slot and watch the movie at the time of purchase without having to resort to internet purchase.
