TV Guide Channel on Directv gota be the most ugly, boring guide or EPG (if you can call it that) I have ever seen. Notice that the only logo on the entire grid is that of TV Guide. This really sucks. And how long do we have to wait for a replacement for wink. Im getting tired of turning on my p.c. just to see the current conditions, cause with cable, you have the current local conditions flashing on the bottom of the screen, even during commercials!! Well, they better start sending out free replacement recievers soon or i`m switching to comcast. I`m not spending another penny on recievers for Directv service, the game is over !!!

None of us who actually know how to use our receivers like the TV Guide channel. It was probably due to some agreement with Gemstar/TV Guide.

And, I still won't go back to cable.... I doubt they offer a 243 hour DVR....

What are you talking about, can you give details?

What is the issue?

They have to carry the TVGuide channel because of a settlement in a lawsuit. It doesn't take up much bandwidth and nobody in their right mind would actually watch it, but they carry it to appease the court. Simple as that. Just unselct it from channels you receive and never see it again. :)

As for weather, it's called www.wunderground.com ;)

why would there have been a lawsuit to carry a channel that shows incorrect information 24/7?

I have never once tuned that channel in!
And I never plan to.

Don't you think it's kinda small - only 3 lines showing.. and scrolling too fast anyhow? :D

And kinda primitive anyways... LOL

i guess no one knows the answer; funny how everyone is so quick to cite a lawsuit yet they dont' seem to know the specifics. I guess I can see where people might deduce that the stupid tv guide channel must be some sort of 'must-carry' since it always incorrect.

I don't have that channel in my Channels I Receive list on my DTiVos. I did look at it when it first went live, and agree that it is a stupid channel. It's like going back to the 80's on cable.

It was a long standing lawsuit against anyone with a grid style electronic guide. It was patened by Gemstar I believe (owned by News Corp who owns TVGuide). News Corp buys DirecTV, lawsuit settled, TV Guide channel added to DirecTV as part of settlement. Should be lots of gritty details at AVS and/or Tivo Community if you want to search.

Looks like EchoStar will also be adding the TV Guide Channel now.

I can hardly wait. Hope they put it next to the Bing channel. Wonder what the ratio of "junk" to "watchable" to "high value" channels is these days on D* and E*???

Funny, I never saw a grid-style guide on a television until digital cable came out in 1996 in Denver. Back then, the cable company was TCI (then, AT&T, then AT&T Broadband, then AT&T Comcast..then Comcast) and the slow-as-molasses EPG was by TV Guide (which makes sense right?) and it was laden (like today) with ads. Then 6 months later, there was DBS from Echostar and DIRECTV, USSB and USN, they all had grid-style guides. They were ad-free. DirecTV's is still the best. I love how they use logos instead of just stupid abbreviations. That does make me criticize the channels with no logo..like Discovery Times and SpikeTV. And the ones with the wrong logo, like Noggin and The Science Channel.

Ask, and you shall receive...

Remember, I'm on the west coast, but notice that the Networks are listed for the east coast. On that screen, there is a two minute discrepency. I was going back in the TiVo buffer in order to do the capture.

How do you find E* channel 102 if you can't figure out the remote?
Get instructions from E* channel 101? :D
Perhaps they should add an idiot button to the remote as they have for channel 100?
