I recently installed a 721 and had a lot of trouble getting it up and running. After diagnosing the trouble this is what I found. I have a legacy quad hooked up to it pointing to 119 and 110 (obviously). The same Quad is feeding a 921 just fine.

When I initially installed the unit, I could not get to boot. No matter how many times I tried, it wouldn't boot. However, once I disconnected the sat lines, it booted right up. As soon as I plugged in the lines from the dish, the system would crash. I tried this for a couple of hours and it kept happening. Finally I REVERSED the sat feeds and then all of the sudden it worked!!! Just to verify, I tried them the original way and sure enough it crashed.

My question is why??? Both tuners are working. Both lines worked fine with a 501. Is there some trick I missed. Is something wrong with my setup (lines to lnb crossed or something). It's all working now but I am curious about the mystery. Should I be worried about the 721

The ONLY REAL TEST of a LNB setup with a 721 is testing with a different 721. The normal operation of a 508 or other receiver on one or both 721 sat leads is meaningless.

I wouldnt worry about it too much, I just hope you have the system warranty for when the box warranty runs out. After a couple days if you get missed recordings or flakey operations then you have the beginings of a lost tuner 2.

Now if the box is less than 24 hours old since activation call and complain right now since its the only time they will give you a new receiver to replace a new one with troubles, less than 24 hours:( tell them its a lost tuner, they are used to that complaint although they will claim its not a known issue.
