Confused. With 921, can I run DVI to prime screen (plasma) and RGB to TV in other room, assuming same station (or different station?) If so, can you run component video cables for 30 feet or will the signal deteriorate? Thanks.

You could do that, but the component cables will only be active if your DVI connection to your plasma is analog only. If it's a digital DVI connection, the component outputs are disabled.

Thanks Mark. It is DVI D. Is that still true if the DVI D screen is turned off?

That I don't know. I don't think so, unless the 921 still has a way of scanning the DVI connection and determining that it's connected to a digital display device. I have no idea how it does it, so I don't have a good answer for you.

Not sure about your TV, but I have the 921 through a Gefen 4:1 DVI switch. When I select a different source (disconnecting the TV from the 921), the component outputs wake up.

If your TV powers down the DVI, the component should come alive.

Mark, can you confirm for me that closed captioning works via DVI-D and componant?

It works for me via component (at least it did when I was testing it). Can't say for DVI because I don't have a DVI display device to connect to.

Thanks--good enough. If you'd like to confirm the DVI one, please send me your 921. ;)

If you hook a 921 up with DVI or component can you do a PIP?

Yes, as long as both channels are SD.

Yes, PIP on the 921 is handled internally in the receiver, which is to say that it creates the final image which includes the overlay of both (SD) channels you are watching. It then sends this composited image over the active output. This is in contrast to having the television do PIP, where the television uses two different inputs as PIP sources.

You can actually combine the two if you want, and if your TV can support it. What I mean by this is you can enable PIP on the 921, and this gets sent to a single input on your television. You can then enable PIP on the television, and use the 921 input along with another input, to get yet another source (e.g. a video game console). Thus, you can watch two SD satellite channels and one other source all at the same time using this method (!).

Now that is interesting.. I have a 921, with a DVI connection to my Sony Projector VPL-HS20 (DVI-D connection, it does not have the four connectors in the plus sign configuraton), and I use the analog Component outs to feed my Sony 42" LCD RPTV around 50 feet away, and both work at the same time without any problems.
