View Full Version : Can I still play recorded PTV from a disconnected DishPlayer 7100?

After trying to find an alternative, I finally ordered a DVR510 + SuperDish + Locals to replace my (working!) DishPlayer 7100. However, I've got a bunch of shows to watch from the DP PTV recordings. Does anyone know for sure if I can disconnect the 7100 from the satellite and still watch the PTV content?

Thanks, all!

I believe the answer is ...yes. I did it several years ago with my DP7100

I also had one of the original "Dishplayers" and swapped it for a 501. What I did is I connected the RCA jacks from the back of the DP to the front of one our VCRs thats connected to a TV. Turned everything on and recorded the contents of the DP to video tape. Thus saving everything on the drive of the DP. You can also use your remote from the DP too.

It will work if, if, you have your Dp disconnected from the sat feed before deactivating. I believe that if you let it get deactivated you'll also be having the ptv feature deactivated. if that happens then no , you can't watch them without hooking the drive up to your compuetr abd using special s/w to extract.

Cheers

Just for the fun of it, I took out the old "7200-Dp" after I read the last reply.
Here is the sequence I tried.
1- Connected RCA Jacks from pvr to vcr jacks on the front of vcr.(Turn on vcr and TV (Set to channel 3)
2- Plugged in pvr
3- Power on pvr (Green light comes on)
4- On your remote press "Home", this takes you to "TV Home"
5- Select "Personal TV", press "Go" on remote
All recorded events should be there for you to scroll up and down. When you want to record or watch just press "Go".
As to the activation question, I think that I had gotten the Dishplayer out of the way for the new 501 and cant recall that I had anything to do with the activation/deactivation of the Dishplayer/501 other than calling up "Dish" and requesting the 501 activation. And they deactivated the Dishplayer at that time. All recorded events were still on the hard drive.

Yeh I watched some hazel shows recorded 9 months earlier. I disconnected the sat feed BEFORE deactivating the DP.

I heard new cards time out after no sat connection for a while but dont know the details

Thanks, all. I'll be sure to disconnect DP7100 before deactivating.
