I have haven't heard much about the 322 receiver. It's treated like the forgotten stepchild of the DVR family. All I know is the 322 is a two tuner dvr just like the 721. So what's the difference between the two (Besides the different looking menus/guides and a larger hard drive.)?

You must mean the 522. The 322 is a 2 tuner standard receiver. The 522 is a two tuner DVR.
The basic differences between the 522 and 721 are, the 522 has more recording space, 100 hrs vs 80 or 90 hrs if I'm not mistaken, and the 721 does not allow 2 different TVs, like the 522 has.
Also the 721 can be purchased by any customer. The 522 is lease only and only NEW lease customers can get it.

And the 522 has a $4.98 DVR fee, where the 721 does not.
The 522 is a "5" series receiver that has 2 inputs and 2 out puts, thus a 5-2-2. The 721 is a "7" series (the only one in that series) receiver that has 2 inputs and 1 output, therefore 7-2-1.
