I live in Kansas city and have noticed on some local channels, particularly my local NBC affiliate, the colors seem to shif frequently. Like while sitting and just watching something it gets brighter and darker about 1-2 times per second. Has anyone else had problems like this with their locals? Something I should call dish about?
I'm seeing the same thing on NBC (OTA) in Tulsa. Must be NBC's problem.
I haven't seen that on my locals, but occasionally I'll get some ghosting, but I think that is a local network problem...could also be same for your coloring problem too
I used to see a lot of smearing, especially on facial close-ups. The Dallas, Texas locals do not have this problem but the Shreveport, Louisiana channels do.

Some relatives of mine get Paduach, KY locals and the ABC channel WSIL 3 there looks dull. Its not a bright colorful picture at all. The NBC channel WPSD 6 which always has some reception issues has static lines going through it some of the time. I'm not sure why the uplinks down there aren't that good for some reason. I would think Dish would have some complaints on it.

The artivacts are somewhat reminicent of Macrovision....as far as the bright/dark goes. I haven't noticed it on my other locals..just NBC and I only noticed it on Networked programs (Saturday Night Live, etc)

It's overcompression. Portland locals do it too. Dish is cramming 12 channels/transponder for locals delivery, downright disgusting. I think everyone should cancel their locals and let Dish know why. This Saturday, come VOOM, my locals are history.

I don't think anyone has really seen what you are talking about except you and I. I think it must have been NBC itself.

Yeah I will agree that the locals are extremely overcompressed. But some of what I was seeing was specific to NBC.

Nicepants, are you by chance viewing your sat recevier via coax through a VCR? If you are, there is a chance that the Macrovision is in effect for some reason on that channel. I've noticed that when my 6000 first powers up, if I am watching it on my 27" TV via the VCR inputs, it displays the Macrovision lightning/darkening until the sat signal is acquired then it goes away.
Try resetting your receiver by pressing the Power button for 5 seconds and see if it goes away.

Nope...going direct to my TV via S-video. Doesn't seem to be doing it now anyways. It was most noticeable during SNL on Saturday. I'll keep an eye on it this week & see what it does.
