501 dvr capability?

does my 501 need to be connected to the dish to access the pvr capabilities? Whe have a long trip to take and I thought of loading it up for the kids and put in in the vehicle!!??

That will work fine - the box will seem to get stuck on the searching for sat signal - you can hit the PVR key to get out...

Now, power and using the box in a moving vehicle could be a secondary issue. The hard drive isn't really going to like the bouncing around. You have to make sure the power inverter can handle the current (cheap ones may not). And, power inverters (and UPS) generally only put out "approximate" since waves which some devices may not like.

yes, just hit the pvr key right off, and as for the latter, I have taken my 501 camping many times and used a 600 watt or a 200 watt inverter or a 2000 or a 3000 watt generator... no problems.
