I am currently a Dish Network subscriber and have been for close to 2 years. I originally had Primestar and was switched over to Directv when Primestar was bought out. I'm still living with my parents and we were always happy with Directv but my dad always wanted the Nasa channel, i called a few times in the year we had D* and they always just said we don't carry it and they weren't allowed to give out any information. I finally got tired of calling and switched over to Dish network which had Nasa. With all this stuff going on with Dish and knowing that Directv has the Nasa channel now I would like to go back with them. I have been reading the boards for a long time, i have been looking at local dealers and there are alot of good deals but they all say new customers only. The Directv was in my parents name before, same address. When we switched to Dish i subscribed in my name and i am currently paying the bill as a favor to them and i would subscribe to Directv in my name. I wanted to ask if I would be considered a new customer or not to be eligible for one of the deals? If not is there anything else i can do to keep costs down? I will take any advice you can give. The setup i was looking at is a Tivo with 2 basic receivers and triple lnb dish. Thanks.

Right now, there are several places including DirecTV (http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/imagine/TIVO.dsp) and Expert Satellite (http://www.expertsatellite.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=51) which are offerring the DirecTiVo for $99.

In order to get the NASA channel, you will need a triple LNB dish as the NASA channel is on 119 instead of 101 (and don't ask me why).

Oh, I see. You want to do the same thing that I'm doing, which is that I have a HDVR2 and two standalone receivers and pick up the tab for the DBS bill for my mother and I. I'm not sure what kind of checks that DirecTV does to see whether or not you are a previous subscriber. Any ideas folks?

D* will probably question the fact that it is the same address. I once installed for a guy whose former girlfriend moved out and took her D* with her. D* didn't want to treat him as a new customer even though he was. We talked to a supervisor and explained the situation and they relented.

Directv checks last name, city and phone number for previous customer status. Much easier to pass than Dish networks check.

You could get a former D* deal.

A friend of mine at work was able to get a free dtivo and triple-lnb dish just for being a former D* returning from E*.
