Got "Limited time Voom Offer" in mail today!

Wow! I got a limited time offer from Voom today in the Mail. it tells about the $0 up-front cost rental program, boasts about how many HD channels they have, and tells me that I don't need an HDTV to view Voom. (which I wouldn't recommend). They go on to promote their HD Movie channels, including Starz! HD and Showtime HD. Then at the bottom of the page in small print it says "The Startz! and Showtime PlusPacks are delivered on satellite capacity that is only temporarily available. Rainbow DBS's authority to use this space will expire on April 5, 2004 or earlier."
~Why would they put these stations on a satellite that they will have to stop using next month? will they stop broadcasting these channels or move them to an other satellite/transponder?
~it is nice to see Voom finally doing some advertising, but why tell the consumer that if they sign up for certain channels they will not be able to view them next month? :confused:

My understanding (from reading posts in other fora) is that the statement is required legalese. They have every intention of working out arrangements to keep those channels. However, their supply line is officially set to cut-off, so they have to say so. (Otherwise, somebody might sue for "false advertising" for advertising services that they knew might get cut-off.)

I wholeheartedly disagree with this statement. I had my Dish 6000 for 3 years before I had my projector. The benefit of using the HD STB is you can get pristine quality PQ where you can't with any satellite SD signal (except a BUD).

I would encourage anyone who wants the HD but can't afford an HD set yet to bite the bullet and take Voom up on their freebie deal right now. Every HD channel you watch will be in widescreen format and will look as good as a DVD on your Analog set.

That's an interesting point, DarrellP. You got me thinking of another point... I want HDTV now only because VOOM has me excited. (E* and D* and cable don't offer enough HD to bother.) If I get VOOM on the lease plan, I can find out if the service works from here, and see if I like the content, before I $shell out buck$ for HDTV. If not, I can return the VOOM stuff and wait for E*, D* or cable HD.
