tivo dish pvr combo

you know i use to have a directivo and then i went back to dish since they got a decent pvr not a 501 glorified vcr. and i like my 522 but its nothing compared to tivo. why does directv let sony,samsung,rca,phillips and others make there receivers for them whcih gives you lots of options for different guide displays and different options and the prices are cheaper. you can get a tivo directv combo unit for 99 or less you cant get a dish dvr/pvr for that. so i guess my question is why doesnt dish let anyone but themselves make there receivers well and jvc but they are identical theres no difference. and why doesnt dish work a deal with tivo? i think it would be a much better deal for dish. but thats my openion

Well, you've seen how Charlie negotiates (i.e. Viacom). I doubt Tivo would ever want to do a deal with him.

I think Dish might be a little leery working with a third party company after the whole DishPlayer fiasco. Dish has always done things in house, with exception of the DishPlayer, and I don't see that changing. When Dish announced the agreement between them and Thomson, close to two years ago now, I was hoping to see some genuine RCA Dish receivers, not rebranded Echostar products.

Well direct tv is standardizing models and taking everything in house, shortly the direct mo9dels will all be identical. they appear to be moving to the dish way of doing things.
