I was a happy DirecTV customer for several years before moving across the country in 2001. My apartment building had very strict rules about dish placement, so I never hooked myself back up and I cancelled my account.

I'd like to dive back in with a 2-room DirecTivo system and I'm trying to figure out my best plan of attack.

1) All of the great deals on Tivo-equipped receivers are for "new customers only." I assume I wouldn't qualify, but how would they be able to verify my status? I have a new address and credit card, but I seem to remember that DirecTV mailed me a refund for the unused portion of my last month's service, so I guess they may be able to match my name and address to their database. Anyone have any experience with this?

2) Assuming I can't qualify as a new user, how much will it cost me to get back in action with 2 Tivo-enabled devices? I see that there's an offer for a free installation and dish if you move, but would I qualify after 3 years without service?

3) I see that there's a $99 DVR deal, but it looks like you can only get one at that price. Now I'm really confused about how to get 2 of them at the best price: from DirecTV, a retailer or a combination of both???

Can anyone help me figure out the best price for someone in my situation?

Thanks!

You can get the $99 deal at Best Buy or Circuit City. You can buy as many as you want at that price.

Thanks for the info. I just purchased 2 of them at Best Buy.

The woman at DirecTV wanted to charge me $150 for a dish and installation because I was a former customer. I mentioned that I'd just choose cable or Dish if it was going to cost me a fortune to get reconnected and she relented and told me that they'd waive the installation and dish charges.

To me D* seems to care more about their customers.

I was switching from E* to D* and they offered me the dtivo for free.
