when you activate a premium package, is there a written or unwritten code that you have to keep those channels for x amount of time? If you don't watch movies during the week, can add a prem package on friday then drop it on sunday nite, etc... or is that a big "no-no"

thanks in advance.

I've done that the last two weeks to watch The Sopranos. I've added and dropped HBO two times, keeping it less than a day both times.

Basically, you can do the "weekend" thing if you do it online.

I wish Dish would allow customers to drop and add service on their website. I believe DirecTv does not charge a downgrade fee if you do it online. I think Dish does not allow you to downgrade online is to try to prevent you from doing it if you call in or make it harder for you to do so that you are less likely to do it, plus they have a reason to implement the $5 downgrade fee.

Your right, Jacob S there is no downgrade fee for doing it online, Im not even sure if there is one if you do in on the phone either but doing it online is much faster, hell Ive done it a few times as well...:D

There is no downgrade fee even if on the phone.

Great advantage over Dish. Online changes take effect immediately, usually faster then I can get to the remote. :)

Thanks Neutron thats cool, I rarely find a need to call into a CSR anyway but still good to know. In fact the only time I had to call a live CSR was to "move"...:D

when I called to pick my programming this past weekend after my install I asked about downgrading to a smaller programming package (I picked the TC Premier package by the way) and she told me that they do not have a downgrade fee for anything, unlike DISH.

With a Tivo you can get HBO one Month, record all the best Movies, then switch to the next Premeim, record all those, ect . . .

Seems like they kind of replay the same movies for months on end, so switching often would be great.

Just another way for Dish to get more money obviously. Dish says it costs them $5 or more to do it by the time you call in. If that is the case then why does DirecTv not charge the $5 downgrade fee? I thought for sure that DirecTv had once charged this fee.

Why does DISH charge $5 for a so called VOD fee? What is it about their receivers that cost to record programs, outside the cost of the box itself?

There is another example. I was going to mention that but DirecTv has a $5 fee as well for their DVR/VOD service.
