Twentieth Television, News Corp.'s syndication distribution division, will oversee advertising sales for DirecTV, the satellite TV service said Monday.
News Corp.'s acquisition of 34 percent of DirecTV parent Hughes provided an opportunity to bring those ad sales in house, said Mitchell Stern, DirecTV president and CEO. Advertisers can reach DirecTV customers through national coverage on about 80 general entertainment networks, as well as sports subscription packages such as the NFL Sunday Ticket offering, the satellite TV company said.
Twentieth Television hired veteran media sales executive Bob Riordon to spearhead ad sales for DirecTV. Riordan will report to Dave Barrington, senior vice president and general advertising sales manager. Both Riordon and Barrington will report to Bob Cesa, who heads Twentieth Television's ad sales division.
