View Full Version : Install myself or pay extra? (switching from Dish)

I am about to switch from Dish and have a situation that may not be covered by the standard, free installation. I'm wondering if I should just to the install myself.

I will be starting with a Tivo and a regular (single feed) receiver, but adding an HD Tivo when it's available. I currently have two Dish receivers, each with a single cable to my pair of dishes. I want to get all the cable installation done at once so I get it all out of the way. I will need an additional run to each existing location, plus a run to a location that will not have a receiver until I get my new HD receiver and move one there.

On to my questions:

Given that 2/5ths of the cable runs exist, will a Professional installer work with me to get the balance of the cable installed, even if the receiver is not delivered yet?

I currently have a chimney mount for both of my Dish antennas and my HD terrestrial antenna. Will they work with me to put it up if the hardware is already there?

While the entire roof can be reached with a single 8' ladder, the chimney is on a wall that is rather high (peak of the second story with vaulted ceilings). some of the cable runs need to go down that long wall, where the existing runs are. Will they address this if it's above the 23' ladder limit for an extra charge?

In short I'm wondering what extra charges I can expect if I opt for professional installation. I'm not worried about doing it myself, but would rather save myself the hassle. Also, what's the lead time for installation? How much time will I save doing it myself?

Thanks!

Money talks.

Lead time depends on a lot of things, for example, your location. When in doubt, see above

If I didn't need this second run of cable done for the dual tuner dtivo I would do it myself too.

I thought you built anti-gravity rays and stuff from parts you found around the house. Surely, you can run a single length of RG6! :icon_cool
