I can't seem to find the thread that referenced this earlier (yes, I did search), but was hoping someone could help me with this. I have a 522 with the L162 software. I have tried switching the UHF Pro remote to control TV1 by flipping that little plastic key at the bottom. When I do, it will control TV1 if I have the ID set correctly, but only via IR. When I flip that key thingy it seems to effectively disable the UHF portion of the remote. Any suggestions?

Also, any new news on the "name-based recording" feature and whether it will allow you to set up a "season-pass" recording like Tivo and my old ReplayTV box? That is the only thing I really miss about my ReplayTV, though the picture quality on the Replay couldn't compare with the 522.

TIA

The Tuner One of all 522's is IR only in the receiver.

Name Based recording is rumoured to be coming later this year possible late summer or early Fall. Be aware that Software releases usually have a way of slipping. Their are NO details on the name based recording. The recent agreement between Gemstar and Dish is a main reason that Dish is capable of enabling named based recording. I would NOT count on a season pass feature or the feature to be called that as TIVO has trademarked that term as well as possible got a patent on a Season Pass type feature.

If the tuner one is IR only, then what is the feature in the new software that allows you to enable UHF Pro for tuner one? I'm really not trying to be a smarta$$ but am very new to the satellite scene.

Poon,

All I know is that when released all 522's tuner #1 were IR only. I thought was STUPID

I have not heard what new features have been added recently in the new firmware. I would be glad to hear that Dish just disabled the UHF remote for TUNER #1 via software and that we will be able to use both Tuners with UHF remotes in the future. If it is true then I would reconsider my decision to purchase a 522 when available to all subscribers as then more of the BUGS will be worked out of the unit.

I was an original 501 beta tester as I got one of the first few units available and while I disliked the bugs I really love the two 501's and one 508's that I have. I have a total of 6 receivers and I would consider replacing more of my receivers with DVR's if and when the 522 is available to regular subs as well as have both Single and dual modes active.

But now you have the option of working TV1 by UHF. Go into the MENU and, I believe under PREFERENCES, you will find REMOTE OPTIONS. That's where you can switch TV1 to UHF.

I haven't ever done this but it seems likely that you will then have to change the Remote Address for a remote control with the blue key & TV1 together so that particular remote won't inadvertently control TV2.

I've tried that, but cannot get TV1 to respond to the remote even when on the same address. If I change the address on the remote while it has the key on the 2(uhf) side, it changes the address on the 522 TV2. I'm about to give it up and start looking for another UHF Pro remote to purchase seperately to see if I have better luck.
