“So, I have been thinking of changing from Dish to Direct TV.” I said from behind my laptop.
“Are you still talking about that stupid TV machine thingy?” She said, seemingly slightly more interested than usual.
“Well yeah, Direct TV has a HD Tivo coming out in a few weeks; I might get that instead of the 921. It looks like a brilliant machine, and is the same price or cheaper.” I went for the “or cheaper” angle.
“I just wish you’d decide. You’re obsessed with the whole deal, why don’t you just read a book.” She said while reading her 3rd book of the week concurrently, she’s like a human DVR; records two books simultaneously while reading a third.
“Yeah I think I will, Yes I’m going to do that, I can’t wait! Bring it on Tivo! Hey, we should be due for the next yearly bill from Dish. I’ll cancel Dish on the last day” I said knowing she pays our subscription yearly to save a months dues.
“Oh, yeah,” she said,” I paid it yesterday. Only 364 days left on the contract!” I swear she was LOL even if it was on the inside.

Couldn't you get out of it since you're only a day or two in it? Doesn't DISH give you 3 days?

Switching over was actually my wife's idea, she was tired of not seeing the Yankees. I didn't want to go through all the equipment changes. You should of heard her the day we had no Viacom stuff. Needless to say that was the final nail, I ordered two Tivo's later that day.

I have a question about the annual credit card prepay. My renewal date is 4/22, and DISH has automatically debited my credit card each year on or about that date. This will be right around the time I will make a decision on renewing (HD Tivo availability, YES contract decision, next 921 s/w release). If they charge my credit card, does that implicitly lock me in for another year? If so, I need to preemptively stop that.

Just give them a call.

If you aren't on a contract (you haven't upgraded any equipment that required a contract) then if you cancel DISH HAS to refund you the portion of the bill that you did not use.

Cal7 call DISH and cancel the auto pay on your credit card then they can't charge the card without your permission. Throwbot you will be credited on a prorated basis.
