Did I miss a thread?, figure this must have been talked about by now, the "lack of" name based on the 921 as compared to Tivo was a biggie for a while.

It was talked about. Others noted that Eldon has had a working version of this internally for some time. But considering Dish's track record of delivering things mentioned in Tech Chats I'm not getting my hopes up.

Plus -- I have some concerns over what Charlie would call "Name Based Recording." They have already corrupted the meaning of "Video On Demand" recently -- I have some worries that they'll just rename their current "search by name" feature into "Named Based Recording"?
"Oh -- you want to record all episodes of Monk? No problem -- just search for "Monk" and manually set a timer for each episode that it finds. Just do this every week or two to make sure you get them all." :nono2:

I have a feeling that the recent deal of the tv guide channel and Gem Star company with Dish, will allow some kind of vcr plus number recordings . Kind of like the vcr uses now. I think somehow they will link the numbers to record to the guide and when you hit on the show it will then be linked to the numbers and you will have name based recordings. I thought this was why Charlie settled with Gem Star and agreed to add the tv guide channel. So they could have access to the gemstar guide info and then the recording ability.
I guess we will find out this summer if they really add name based recording ability and whether it works this way or with "Tivo" software or some new hybrid software from Dish.
I think thats what there doing. I've notices numbers in the guide like guide plus.

I mentioned in the past that they could use a VCR+ type of code to schedule shows based on the name, and not record repeats and so forth. I have only noticed numbers in the EPG on the PPV channels. Perhaps the people that have TV Guide+ would sue Dish Network for copyright infringement if they used that technique, or does the TV Guide company own certain rights to do such a thing?
