I have a directv subscription in new york, and another apartment in maryland. I want to mirror my new york subscription here in maryland. From the other posts on this site, i can see the phone line is not a necessity, so will this work?? Thanks!

Yes, just take an activated reciever and a dish and as long as you dont hook it up to the phone line DirecTV will have no idea your reciever is not in NY.

If you are subscribed to your New York locals, you may not be able to receive them in Maryland. I don't think the footprint of the spotbeam for NY locals reaches that far south, but hey, you never know.

Not taht I would give anyone advice on avoiding the law but the East Coast spotbeam is pretty big.
