Hey all, just joined the forum, as I am having Dish installed Tuesday, but have a couple of questions:

Does the installer require the signed form from the landlord, even if the dish will be put on my own doorway? Ive been trying to get a hold of my landlord all weekend and no answer, they must be on vacation or something. At one point the first CSR I talked to told me that as long as the dish was in an area I have exclusive control, that landlord permission was not necessary, but the second person who confirmed the order told me that the installer will not put in the dish no matter what without the landlords permission.

And secondly, how long does it usually take and are they realible when it comes to showing up when they say they are going to? Im suppose to get installed sometime between 12-5, but I have to be at work at 4:30  What are the chances I will make it to work ontime?

I have been in that position a few times, I am half way through the install and someone runs up and tells me I cant put the dish there, so I have to "see" the permission sheet before I open the tool box! I cant speak for other "installers" but I do two installs a day one in the morning and one in the afternoon so I am right on time 99.9% of the time, but you may well have to wait a bit longer, you may be lucky and he will show on time. The average time to do a dual installation should be around two hours, including up to 30 minutes of training if needed, and grounding. Depending on where you are ask to see the installers license and SBCA 1+2 certification badge, if he dont have it tell him goodbye! If he shows up without a signal meter close the door on his face! Good luck, but dont be messed about, you are the customer! (always right!)

Hi Nova and welcome to DBSTalk! :welcome_s

It really depends on the your lease. Here is a link to the actual FCC ruling:

http://www.fcc.gov/mb/facts/otard.html

I know your landlord might be out of town but you still may be okay. To be on the safe side though, you really should try and contact him somehow (doesn't he have a pager or cell phone?).

Good luck with the install tomorrow and hope you don't run into any serious snags.

Ok thanks for your help. I got a hold of the landlord, and he said he cannot get here to sign the paper, but to go ahead and forage his signature...I don't like the idea of being deceptive and committing a federal crime, but its just a technicality and no one is being hurt in any way, since I have full permission. Ill just hope the installer doesn't ask for it, but Ill have it ready if he does. So if all goes well, Ill be posting here some more!
