Blonder Tongue Laboratories, Inc. (AMEX:BDR - News) announced today the release of the TV Channel Blocker which enables cable television operators to control content in households that presently lack the equipment necessary to prevent unwanted channels from being viewed...
However, there are an estimated 42,000,000 U.S households without set-top converters of any kind. The TV Channel Blocker provides channel control to these households.
I look for hardware like this to become very popular as more people look to block the crap so common on cable (and satellite) from entering their homes. This requires no set top box to control access and can be mounted on the pole and addressed from the cable company.
Speaking of such, what the heck is a "Blonder Tongue", I mean the one that is listed on DishNetwork's software versions page. I thought I knew what all the different models were but I have no idea about that one.

Don't know everything they are into, but they make some pretty cool OTA antennas. Got one of their UHF rigs and it's pretty sweet!

Blonder Tongue is a manufacturer of equipment such as diplexers, filters and numerous passive and active devices used in the broadcast industry.
I dunno about that one. For the folks that were so offended during the Super Bowl it wouldn't have helped. Unless of course they blocked CBS. I guess some folks only want EWTN and such, but I can't believe there is that huge a market for it.
I'd love to hear the arguments between parents and kids if the parents try to block MTV. Just gives kids a reason to hang out at their friends homes.
Some folks won't be happy until they can get a device that automatically filters everything thats not 'G' rated or that has been blessed by Robertson/Falwell. I for one won't be getting any such device.
What? I always thought a blonder tongue was a bleach-blond lesbian!

There is a Dish Network receiver called Blonder Toungue. Anyone ever seen one of these?

I wonder if this device could be deployed in a situation like mine where local TV stations are right on top of me (1-5km) and I'd like to DX stations from 120-160km. Tell the BT device that I want to block channels x, y, & z so they don't overload the downstream receivers.

That would be called a "V-Chip"
