My horror story started in late January (04). Luckily the weather was good the day of the install. My installer, representing Data Link (out of MD), did a fair job on the install (although I could have done better). It took over an hour of jiggling the dish to lock on the sat. Installer got two different coordinates from Data Link and Installs. Then the box starts locking up. Slow channel changing. Program info disappears. And so on. I call Voom to complain - "Oh I'm sorry" they all say - What a sorry-ass outfit! I finally got to talk to one of the floor sups - he is sorry too!. Then there was the $300 customer appreciation - Saw that on a statement yesterday - after the equipment was removed by Data Link. At least I had the free trial. The HD is great, although 10 channels of the same boring movies gets old. What made me cancel - I tried to get the replacement box (the one with the better software?). Data Link couldn't schedule 10 minutes on my time to bring me the box (I asked Voom, Installs & Data Link to send it to me - can't disrupt that professional service). Then I find out that they are renting the box - what did I pay $750 for?? :eek2: After dealing with very "sorry" Voom customer support, I canceled. Then, last night I get a call from Voom reminding me that the free preview has ended - I reminder the rep that I cancelled and does that register on computer screen in front of her - Oh "I'm sorry" :nono:
Voom is/was a good thought. The HD is good, the SD is marginal. They can loose the MOOD/MOVE channel. And the anorexic model channel can go as well. I'll let my BP settle for now - maybe I'll try again in the future. For now, I'll be content with local digital signals and cable. :nono2:
Hopefully I will see my money, as the rep indicated it was in process.

Good luck to those that haven't returned their equipment.

If you could have done a better install then why don't you get a job installing dishes? Don't be angry with the installer who is just doing his job, be mad at Voom.

VOOM is great and I have not had all the problems you did. I am renting @ $9.50 per month. Have not had to call VOOM once, but they called me to make sure everything was installed correctly, that I received all my OTA channels, and that I was pleased. The installer drove 136 miles one way and worked till 9:30 PM in the dark. Then they sent out a Supervisor to re-check the install and took another Survey. Guess problems like yours they don't want repeated. They deserve another look. Remember you were an early adapter. You worked the bugs out for someone like me and the many that are now very satisfied with VOOM. From what I have read there WERE problems that have now been corrected, but it should not have cost you anything out-of-pocket but your time.

I just voted for Voom CS, they've been excellent to me. My Voom experience has been 100% positive so far. I helped the installer with everything and he really appreciated it.

Voom has the best DBS technical support I've ever experienced, by far. Perhaps I've been lucky...
