Next week, the Kentucky General Assembly will consider a tax modernization plan, legislation that proposes to impose a 7.62 percent tax on telecommunications services - including satellite TV offerings - in the state.
Lawmakers will consider a tax modernization plan as part of the state's budget bill, and are set to begin meeting on the provisions in the budget bill Monday.
Reportedly, cable TV lobbyists are pushing Kentucky legislators on whether their business should face a lower tax than the proposed 7.62 percent levy since they pay a franchise fee. Such a move would mean satellite TV customers would face a higher state tax than cable TV customers in the state.
In addition to Kentucky, state lawmakers in Arizona have been eyeing a possible tax on satellite TV services, but so far haven't moved forward on any taxing legislation. StopSatellitetax.com (http://www.stopsatellitetax.com) has information on state satellite tax issues.
