I called DISH today to sign up for my locals, and found out somebody else had an account at my address who I've never heard of. I own the entire house and 3 acres it sits on so this guy basically said they would take care of it...

Just a warning to everybody....

Topeka locals SuperDISH install... April 21 :)

It could be the previous occupants.

Is your address elgible for distant nets? I can not understand why some would use a fake(not thier own) address for any reason other than distant nets.

I highly doubt someone would use your address. Why would they do that? They would get nothing out of it. If they gave your address to Dish, then we would assume the service would be at that house. There was a previous occupant, thats why the Dish CSR said that.

Matt, If the address qualifies for Distant service, then the person using it qualifies for Distant or imported Network services that most DBS subscribers can't get. The person using the address might have just picked an address number for that street so as to be able to get Distant service he would be NOT able to get in an area within a Grade A or B signal contour at his real address.

Many DBS Dish Subs have a seperate Service address from their Billing address to specifically be able to subscribe to Distant Network signals. The person using the address does gain something as well as possibly get an RSN what for his actual address would NOT be able to qualify with the Major league sports that were on it.

Well, we purchased the house in November. The name on the account didn't match the previous owners. They constructed the house (it's 3 years old)

Funny thing, we didn't qualify for any distant networks, I had to get a waiver for CBS & FOX and was denied on all the others. I have no idea what this was about... as you didn't qualify for anything. Oh-well.. whatta ya do?

It could be dish's fault . They changed my address to someone elses address last year and ended up cutting me off because they couldnt get a hold of me. I had credit card autopay so yes my bill was still being paid. The address they had me at was half way across the state. :nono2:

Yes Dish did that to me once as well. They had my phone number and address changed to somewhere in Kansas and had no record of an account using my home phone. I had to loook up my account # on a old bill just to get it straightened out.
