View Full Version : E* offers PBS statewide in MS, locals or not.
I just checked the locals qualification page on E* for Tupelo and discovered that E* has added a PBS "statewide" channel that my brother qualifies for. This wasn't displayed a few days ago. In fact, it appears that Dish will activate it for anyone with a zip in MS, even if you aren't in a "locals available" area.
Our PBS affiliate broadcasts the same signal statewide, so it appears that MS ETV has granted authority to rebroadcast statewide. For those interested, the channel would appear as local channel 29 and Dish channel 9276.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if they charge $1.50 for it like they do for distant network a-la-carte channels?

This is the third state I know of that has this. Georgia has had this for a while and yesterday I was informed by e-mail about Arkansas also offering the Little Rock PBS statewide and now Mississississippippippi...ppippi...ppp....

Leave it to a guy from Ohio to make fun of the spelling of a state.
Interesting, Alabama is the same situation, no local programming at all on any of the PBS. This could save E* a bit of bandwidth if they can mirror the same channel to all subscribers and locals packages in the state.
West Virginia and Kentucky both have statewide PBS networks repeated all over these states, with no "local" content, which would also be appropriate for this arangement.

Pepper, In Alabama, Dish does only have one channel. They "mirror" the channel on different channel numbers, but there is only one "real" channel uplinked. The difference is that in Alabama, if locals aren't available, neither is the Alabama PBS. This is also done in Iowa and parts of Kentucky.

Nick,
In Ohio it's easy to spell names, but not that easy to pronounce.
Lima = Lye-ma not Lee-ma
Delhi = DEL-high not DEL-ee
Bellefontaine = bell-Fountain not bell-fon-tayne
Mariemont = Mary-mont not Marie-mont
Rio Grande = Rye-o Grand not REE-o Gran-deh
And my favorite
Gallipolis = gallaPOLICE not Galli-polee
And of course one can never forget that it is Xavier University, not EGG-Xavier that should have beat Duke a couple of weeks ago. :)

I've seen in DBS Talk's channel charts for Dish that MS PBS is supposed to available in the Memphis DMA, which reaches into parts of MS. I live in West TN and get the Memphis channels including WKNO, the PBS affiliate, but not MS PBS. Is this only available in MS or am I able to get it as well? I'd like to be able to get them, because they carry The Red Green Show, which WKNO doesn't. :mad:

WMAV (Oxford, MS PBS) was briefly listed in the EPG stream (never visible to subscribers) was mirrored on a channel 7172. However it was never made available.
WMAV is a 100% repeater of the Jackson PBS. Dish made a deal with the Jackson MS station to carry its programming state wide in lieu of carrying WMAV.
The Jackson MS PBS is available ONLY in Mississippi counties. So if you live in Tennessee, you will not get the MS PBS via Dish.
