View Full Version : Beginning of the end of the 6000?

Well I got my new Dish 500 smart card for my 6000 in last week. Put it in and lost my timers (well the correct number of timers were in there but the times and the channels were messed up).

I removed the timers. I was then unable to create new timers. Every time I tried to make a new timer, the box would lock up generating the channel list and then reboot.

I wiped NV ram, I removed the smartcard/reinserted, I unplugged, rebooted, ran switch tests over and over. No amount of cajoling would get the channel list back up.

Since there was no massive outcry on the net about broken 6000s, I decided that my problem was maybe being caused by my particular set up... The 6000 was connected to 4 satellites, 119/110/105/61.5, I had hooked it up to 105 a while back when it was going to be the HD spot. Since I was looking at 105 for no real reason (except to get the congratulations you have a SuperDish 105).

Well I took off the 105 satellite. Reset the unit, did a switch test, now I can add timers again.

Which makes me wonder if the new smartcard when activated takes up more memory and that makes the channel list no longer fit in memory when connected to four satellites. If this is the case, the DPP44 switch could be useless for the 6000.

If there is a new satellite going to be used for HDTV (Like 105.5DBS) and 6000 users want to go to 4 satellites, there might be some snags.

My 6000 has a blue card and 4 sat 61.5/110/119/148 setup. It does the same thing.

I own my equipment but I pay for the extra insurance. Had the power on my 6000 blow, dish network try pushing a 811 down my throat just like they try pushing a 50x when calling in about my dishplayers.
I sent it way I got it back ( same reciever i put a small blue x on the bottom) and when I got mine back it had an evenlope attached to it with a yellow smart card the orginal blue one inside. No letter or anything I put in the yellow card it has not been activated yet so i stuck it back in teh envlope and taped it to the bottom of the reciver or I would lose it for sure. I figure I will just wait and see if they call me about it.

Yes I did the NVRAM clear (left right arrow diag thing). That did not fix the problem. I deleted all timers. There was nothing there, but when you TRIED to enter the timer setup screen the reciever would reboot. No matter what I tried, I could not get it to enter the timer set up screen as long as I had 4 satellites connected. This worked fine with the old blue card, I just got my 500 card. The 500 card seem to cause the problems. I suspect that the 500 card uses more memory, just enough to push it beyond the ability to look at 4 satellites.

Now that I have 3 satellites connected I can set timers without problem.

The solution mentioned does not "fix" the problem. It must be used each time you set a manual timer. Sometimes, I don't start pushing the buttons soon enough. :)

I think the "beginning of the end" of the 6000 passed a while ago actually...

I received a card by UPS today. It claims to be necessary because of 'enhanced technology' (or something like this). Anyone know what it is for? Apparently it has to be in the receiver (6000) by the end of the month.
