I recently heard of Dish Network adding or replacing their music channels with Sirrius Satellite Radio. Does anyone have any info on this or if it's even true?

Thanks,

Matt

Yes, replacing, true. Preparations are in progress to figure out how to get it done. Possibly in May or June ...

(Oh, you didn't ask when ... ignore the last part of the answer. :) )

This is the press release announcing this. News is 2 months old. FYI, next time try a search for the topic you're looking for. Saves you starting a new thread for something that is already out there.

Sparkman87,

Thanks for the link. I did, however, search the threads for this topic. Perhaps a spelling error on my part cause the search to come up empty.

The question was put on this month's Charlie Chat:
Caller Joe: I was wondering if you had any more information on this Serius Radio. Is there going to be an additional fee to receive this Serius Radio and can we get the adapter so we can put the Serius Radio in our cars for when we go on the road. What more information do you have?

Jim: A very good question.
Charlie: I don't think we have even brought that up.
Jim: We have not. He must have read a press release or something.
Charlie: So, we're asleep at the wheel here. Not unusual.
Jim: Well we don't have it to offer yet, normally we like to have it before we talk about it.

Charlie: We did have an announcement last month that we signed an agreement with Serius Radio to carry Serius Radio on our satellite network and it will be in, I think, America's Top 120 - and 180 and Everything Pack - and it will be available at no extra charge.
(confirming with off camera folks)
61 channels of music and maybe a couple of radio stations that they have that we'll make available at no extra charge.

Then we will have a special deal with Serius where you can subscribe and have Serius Radio put in your car. There is an additional charge when you put it in your car. Or you can even have an adapter to run around your home. Or you can go out of our satellite receiver and go into your stereo system and things like that.

So its going to be a great product, it's a great service. I've had it in my car for a long time and its another one of those products that it is kind of hard to live without. Commercial free. No extra charge through the satellite system, and a special way to get it in all your cars.

I believe we are going to launch Serius Radio at the end of May.
(clarification from the peanuts)
May 20th, so we will probably talk about that on our June 12th, the next Charlie Chat we're on, maybe a little on our technical Charlie Chat next month.

We will probably have to work the kinks out a little bit, and probably June 12th talk about how you can upgrade your car.

I have recently switched my main programming to Directv kept, superstations+fox(e&w that I had waivers for), and Sky Angel on my 501. Right now Dish offers the muzak channels alacart for $5. I don't want them now, but do u think that after May 20th I can get Sirius instead for the $5? I don't want to resubscribe to AT120 or higher.

Get Sirius!!! :D

I 'siriusly' doubt that this package is going to be available as an ala carte. It's 120 or higher to get the package, period.

If they did do this I'm sure it would be more than 5 bucks a month. Maybe 10 bucks a month? Sirius is $12.99/mo. but that's 100 channels (the 40 or so news/info channels that Dish won't be offering)

I'm kinda hoping for it to be offered a-la-carte too, but I'm not holding my breath. In my case, it would be the subscription price, plus an extra 5 dollars for not having at least AT60.

IIRC one can get Sirius for $10 per month by paying annually.

I expect that it will be offered alacarte - and possibly for $5. The way I think about it: AT60 plus $5 will give you your regional sports network(s). AT60 plus $10 will give you AT120 ... which will include 61 Sirius music channels (replacing 31 stereo channels). I don't see why they would charge more than $5. They may drop the option, but E* likes anything that brings in $$$ so unless Sirius has a problem with alacarte, the option will remain.

Remember that the availability of Sirius Music via dish is good advertising for Sirius car and portable radios. I can't see them having an objection to alacarte.
