I just had my Dish Network installed on the roof of my apartment building, but the installer had to put the dish on a tall pole to get it over the trees. What Im wondering is, how long until the trees grow and block the signal? Ive never really paid attention to how much trees grow. The problem is, once the signal is blocked, no more dish for me, since there is no where else to put the dish that will get a signal.

Depends on the age and speciies of tree. Young maples grow a foot or more a year.

Try not t worry you can always get a longer pole, or perhaps the tree will get trimmed:)

And some trees like hybrid poplars can grow up to 4 feet per year for the first 10 years or so. Established older trees of most species only grow a few inches in height each year and top out at a certain height after about 100 years and grow no further, they only get bigger around.

Find the one tree that will block your satellite and cut the bark all the way around and the tree will die.

You guys are so bad.

I have to admit, when I had my BUD, there was a tree in my neighbors yard that hung over into mine which blocked some of the satellites. I asked that he have it trimmed but he never did. After I got done carving away the branches in my yard, the tree ended up dying the following year. :D

Anyway, I don't recommend messing with the tree but it will be a few years before you have to worry about the signal being blocked. Don't worry about it right now and just enjoy your dish.

Ok thanks everyone! The tree is too tall for me to be able to reach it to trim, but if its gonna be a few years before I have to worry about it thats not problem, since im sure ill be out of there by then. I don't want to get a taller pole, since here in Maine we get a lot of wind, and I don't want to come home and find my dish waiting for me in the driveway!
