View Full Version : Should I keep my 921?
I got mine under the $699 deal for previous 5000 owners. Is it worth it? Will they continue to support it or just bail on it like the 7200's and concentrate on the 922?
Mark please help

The 922 is being developed by the software team in Denver, not at Eldon. The 921 isn't going anywhere. It's the same kind of comparison as the 510 to the 522 - both receivers are designed for different tasks. The 922 will control 2 televisions independently.

Boy, that's the truth! Oh, wait, I think you meant that in a different way... :)
BDEMZ, I think you should definitely get rid of your 921. What you should do is sell yours to me!

Regardless of the amount of uproar over the dishwire ports, there are still a heck of a lot of people out there that want the 921. I get around 50 emails a day asking where they can get one.

That's not quite fair since both the 921 and 922 are dual tuner boxes. It's more like comparing the 721 to the 522. And, once the 522 get's single TV mode, the 721 becomes redundant.
There's no reason a 922 type box couldn't be used with a single TV just like a 921.
How will one than archive old stuff to tape if no firewire?

I would suspect that answer to that question would be "One won't", or rather it would be via recording the decoded signal from one of the outputs. Essentially, plug one of the outputs into your (regular or SVHS) VCR and manually record the content while playing it.

Indeed -- I tend to agree with that. It seems logical to me that once the 522 is available to all, the 721 (which I just bought) will no longer be heavily supported. And, similarly, once a 922 was out and running well, I don't see much reason for the 921 to be significantly continued.
Of course, unless there is a huge price difference. But, heck, right now, it seems that the 522 is even CHEAPER than the 721! Therefore, if there wasn't the DHA issue and the 522 actually did what it should (i.e. "single-mode"), there would be very little reason to buy a 721...

You say that like it is heavily supported.
If I had bought a 921 with the intention of using the Firewire feature, I'd be very dissapointed and expect the option to return for a full refund.

I have complained about the White Balance being off on the SD side of the 921. Recordings look ghostly and washed out! :(
