View Full Version : Bug fixed: STOP during playback no longer stops a recording in progress
L180 seems to have fixed the often-reported bug that hitting STOP during playback of a previously-recorded program would also end any DVR recordings that were currently in progress.

Some of the time anyway.
I take it, then, that for now we should still avoid using STOP when any recording is in progress.

I had this happen to me twice today: I was watching a recorded event and hit stop and it stopped a recording....what I just confirmed is that If I am recording an event, and watch a previously recorded event, hitting the stop button works properly and does not stop the recording, BUT, if I go to watch a program from the beginning that I am currently recording and I hit stop, it stops the recording, without any warning.
I just tested what my 508 does in this scenario and it asks the question whether or not you want to stop recording and go to live mode....if this is the way the 921 is supposed to operate, it should ask whether or not you want to stop the recording too. Does anyone know if this is what the 921 is supposed to do?

Well, of course it should do that!
Apparently the human interface experts that were involved in the 921 design didn't think it was important. Oh, there weren't any HI people on this project? OOOHHH - they were all high people. arf arf arf  :)

There should definitely be a confirmation screen before "stop" stops a recording, no matter what.
If I'm watching a show and it is recording and I accidentally press stop, that is a major loss. It should make you select something to confirm it.

I second that Cheezmo. Last night I was watching the Sopranos while it was recording. I had Deadwood recording immediately after. At the conclusion of the Sopranos, I hit stop and it stopped the in progress recording of Deadwood.

Same here. But then I tried to stop a prerecorded program while recording another and it did not effect the one being recorded.

What's the best work-around to stop a dvr playback without using the stop button? Going to the PVR list and starting another playback stops the previous one, but useful only if you plan to watch playbacks until the red light is off. Maybe I should keep the next zero length recording and use it as a stop function. Going to the program guide and selecting a sat channel stops the playback, but if two programs are being recorded no tuners will be available. Is it safe just to hit the off button during playback? Anyone have a better method?

I hit the Last Channel button. It will take you out of the recording, all menus and back to watching TV. If you are at the end of the recording that you are watching, FF to the end.
what I just confirmed is that If I am recording an event, and watch a previously recorded event, hitting the stop button works properly and does not stop the recording,
As Mark said, "some of the time". I was viewing a previously recorded program program yesterday while recording another. When I hit the stop button to stop the DVR recorded event, the live recording stopped. This is funny because right after the L180 download I thought remembered this function working properly.
