View Full Version : Nightmare Install
Installer arrived at 12 noon Saturday it took 2 and a half hours to find out he could not get a signal. He thought it was the Motorola Box and told me he forgot to put another one in his truck and asked me if I could come back Monday to have him finish the install because he did not have gas money to drive home to Long Beach to get another box.
I explained that it was too bad he forgot it but I would need to have the install completed. He went to the bathroom and then left telling me he would be back by 4pm. At 5:30pm when he arrived he came in his friends car so he could do the install while his friends waited in the car in front of our home. Since he did not have his truck that meant he did not have his ladder so he climbed up the side of my terrace and broke one of my plants. Then he neeed me to send him up his tools. I would also seriously consider having a drug test done at some point. He tried a new box but had the same problems and by 7:30 decided to come back another day.
He told me he will try again on Monday and come in my backyard sometime Monday while I am at work to se about installing the dish in another location. I was ready at 8am on my day off and he finally left at 8pm on Saturday night. I would like to have this service installed by another tech and have it done right. I do not want this person to know everything I shared with you because I live a nice quite life, I would however life to have this fixed immediately.

Sorry you live a sheltered live, but when you order a product you take responsibility for what is to come. It seems like you were a total jerk to the installer. What is the issue with the installer returning Monday? Perhaps customer service was lacking, but the installer was trying to complete the job. Do you not consider it rude to tell someone, "It's going to be done today." The installer isn't your manservant, nor are you a military NCO/Officer. It seems you need to develop some social skills. If you respect your private/quite life, it seems you'd respect this installer's private life (references to drug use, etc.) You seem like you like to meddle in folks business. You're lucky the installer returned in the first place! I can only imagine how uncomfortable the poor gentleman felt while trying to complete your installation. If you want someone else to complete the installation, have the balls to request it. Ever done that before? Perhaps you will use better people skills when you request it, lest the installer finally has enough and lets one loose upon your noggin.
You had a bad install because you made it a bad install! Other folks have had issues with installation with EVERY DBS provider.
I guess I have alot to learn and I thank you for taking the time to teach me the skills necessary to work through this installation. Forgive me for not caring more about this person and his problems but I ordered an installation and not an all-day event. I did not like the fact that he forgot to bring an extra box when he said they are always to have one in their truck. I do not like the fact that he asked me to borrow gas money to go home and get the box. I do not like the fact that he came back without a ladder and this turned into my problem.
When I go order a service to be performed I like it to be done timely and professionally. That is what my customers expect from me and if I do not fulfill my job professionally and do it in a timely manner than I lose my job and am no longer able to provide for my family. I appreciate your efforts but it sounds like you are the kind of guy who has the time to schedule multiple appointments to have someone come to your home to do an install.
I felt 8am to 8pm was sufficient for a Saturday when I work 70 plus hours during the week. If the service can't be installed then I am happy to go back to my Cox HD. I am hoping things work out and I am hoping to have Voom up by tomorrow or it is no longer worth the wait for me.

I think you took about as much as one person can take. No 2nd box?? Install not going well?? All that is understandable. Asking for gas money is a definite bad sign-.Did he not eat all day as well? I ahte to stereotype but asking for gas money tells me he spends his money on other things. I have been there and I am lucky there are no forums where people could talk about my behavior. I dont wanna harp, suffice to say I have been clean for 12 years and lastly you dont deserve that kind of customer service. I pray my install goes nothing like yours.--Dont worry about your people skills--the fact you didnt call VOOM management tells me you gave the guy a huge break!!

Where in the original post did it say the guy asked for gas money?
I had some major issues with the install a week ago and posted to this board but after today I am happily vooming along. A different installer was all it took and these guys were great. Helpful, fast, and knowledgeable. They brought the upgraded antenia but it stll was not enough to get local channels. I am going to pay Cox for just the local channels. This is the BEST my TV has ever looked. I have the older Sony 36" XBR tube and I never knew it could look so good.
