Anyone heard when Dish Home will be added to the 721? Or will it ever?

Insert sounds of crickets chirping here. In all seriousness though, it seems the PVR 721 is getting the least amount of software updates/fixes/attention despite it supposedly being the flagship non-HD dish receiver. Its a shame considering how its price point is still fairly high while watching the 522's getting so much more support in a much shorter product life to date.

Who knows maybe never, although there were rumors it would be added. You do realize the news of the 922 based on the 522 platform indicates the 721 921 platform has become obsolete. They wouldnt stop all support for these boxes, a good example will be 7100 7200 dishplayer minimal upgrades, little support for new technologies, no renumbered locals. This is the future of the 921 721 receivers. Things like this. I wouldnt be surprised if they back out of the 921 altogether. With so few sold and the 922 being developed. I think the 922 is futher along than we know, although not ready for prime time:( The trouble with the 921 is its development cycle is so long its becoming obsolete before it ever made general distribution.

Now I happen to agree with the reducing the platform move, as it increases attention to technology software and bug fixes in one area. This move has been needed for a long time. The folks in charge arent totally asleep:(

Please dont be upset I just report news dont create it. You should hear more by the time of the dealer meeting

But dont look for much on these boxes, espically the 721. Unless something dramatic changes they are the DPs of the future.

But you do editorialize wildly

Every receiver will be the DP of the future.
No receiver line will last forever.

Haven't heard if/when it will come out. There is a good thread about this on Satelliteguys.us (http://www.satelliteguys.us/showthread.php?t=6873) but there hasn't been any news lately.

Big Bob, I do my best, and report what I can. Admit I DO editoralize, its just my personality and I have opinions as you all know about E of the last couple years.

No where did I say the 721s will be shut off. I just doubt they will put much effort, and arent currently in 721 upgrades. If the 922 rumor is true the 721 921 platform may be a dead duck and since the 721 was never very popular I doubt it will get much attention. Heck a rock solid software that works for EVERYONE without bugs might be a improvement. Honestly I could care less about dish home and other distractions, I guess I am wierd, I actually watch tv.

My hope is that whatever shakeup occurs at E it fixes at least some of the serious challenges facing them. I am tired of being so negative. At least now I have liots of company, to one degree or another....

Sorry if I upset anyone.

You don't REPORT anything! Most of what you post is "Haller Hallucinations" created from your hate of DISH to make the company look WAY worse than they are (yes, DISH does have problems that they need to resolve). You have absolutely NO idea of what DISH is going to do in the future.

To get back to the original question, DISH HOME for the 721 is in beta testing and will be released this quarter.

Bill on the 923 will they run two formats with a single tuner and a dual tuner high def box?

Doesnt it make more business sense to scale back the sigle tuner platform and standardize on just one?

BTW I dont hate dish, just am mad at what they have become........

You are making up model numbers and you know that I don't have any idea of what their plans are so why do you ask?

BTW I dont hate dish.
You aren't fooling anyone. Your posts ooze with hate and animosity for DISH. The way that you CONSTANTLY twist things to make them look a lot worse than they are proves my point. You lost your objectivity a LONG time ago and can't be counted on for anything that is even close to reality.

A lot of us are not completely happy with the way some things are going at DISH (like the roll-out of new hardware) but we don't make up lies (like saying their equipment doesn't work). That HAS to stop if you ever want anyone to trust anything that you have to say.

It does not look too promising on having as many future software upgrades on the 721/921 receivers that have Linux software running on them since the newer receivers are running new software (322/522/future 922) although Dish Home (OpenTv) and name based recording are features that are supposed to be added later this year on all the DVR's.

Typo I meant 922 sorry. Jacob said it well. If the 721 921 platform is truly coming to a end then I dont expect much in the way of software improvements either.

BOTH boxes will be extremely low volume if the 921 gets into general distribution at all.

Frankly I think E should cut their losses and end production offering anyone who wants a full refund.

The lack of additional high def offerings was likely tied waiting on a successful 921 roll out. With that so troublesome its probably stalling additional channel additions.

Theres a large number of posters here like myself who know more than they are allowed to say. Now just who they are, and their connections are a interesting question...

Thanks Bill R for the update on the info on the dishhome coming to the 721 :) You have been of great help over the years and especially during the dishplayer days

Dish will NEVER offer a refund unless the customer goes to great links, loses a lawsuit, or is forced by Attorney General/law to do so, even if the receiver has problems.
