Here is a strange one!

Before I witched to DishNet about 2 months ago, I was getting the San Francisco locals along with the Sacramento locals (yes two local markets). I have contacted Dish Network asking them how I could get the Sacramento locals as I used to, but they do not respond. When I login to their site, they only offer me distant (A La Carte Networks for a fee), from New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Chicago. However, I don’t care for those distant networks I want the Sacramento locals, in fact the San Francisco locals are further away from my area and they gave me those instead. It does not make sense!

I guess I am sort of between two local markets (San Francisco & Sacramento) and my cable company (Mediacom) provided both local markets to every one in my area. I wish I new how the cable company is able to provide the two markets as part of their locals. DishNet should provide me with both markets like my cable company did without even having to ask.

Anyone knows how I could get DishNet to recognize that yes my area gets both markets?

You can only be in one market. You are not in-between. The rules governing satellite Local into Local are different than cable. You get one market(the Market Nielson(Sp?) says you are in). If you qualify for Distants, they could provide the Sacramento Big Four, but they do not offer those as distants.

I thought this was about a REAL problem, not a misunderstanding about how DBS LIL works...

I understand the Nielson rules, I just don't get why Neilson wont allow the satellite company to offer the same locals as cable.:( I wonder if their rules will eventuallly change or make the cable company follow the same rules when it comes to local channels.

Well, apparently you are not getting the point. Nielson does not make the rules. Nielson decides what counties are in which market. A particular county can only be in one market. The SHVIA decided that the Nielson market definition would be used for satellite local into local delivery. There is apparently a move afoot to get the "significantly viewed" rule, which cable operates under, added to the reauthorization of SHVIA. Express your opinions to your Congressmen and Senators soon.

Forgive my ignorance but what hell is 'local into local delivery', and what does 'SHVIA' stand for?

SHVIA - Satellite Home Viewer Improvement Act , the legislation that enabled the DBS providers to offer local channels

Local into Local - the term used when a DBS provider acquires the signals of the local channels, then retransmits back into their local area via DBS satellites.

Just a bunch of excuses as to why you can't get locals that you want. That is about all that really is.
